Dental Bridges

Missing teeth are cosmetically unacceptable, of course, but there are less obvious problems as well. Many missing teeth adversely affect jaw and chewing function and contribute to irreversible changes in face shape. When teeth are missing, there is an increased risk of movement of other teeth. Permanent change of the supporting bone around teeth may also occur.
Like dental implants, dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. Implants have become increasingly popular but bridges can still be very functional replacements. Where implants stand alone, bridges must be supported by crowns on the teeth on either side of the space. They are typically covered with porcelain and are permanently cemented in place.
Implants can also be used to support bridges. If three teeth are missing, two implants supporting a bridge in that space can be very functional and esthetic. Adjacent teeth are not involved.
If you have missing teeth, a dental bridge may be an ideal solution. Give us a call.
