Dental Fillings

For the last 2 centuries, cavities have been filled with a mixture of metals, including silver and mercury. It is still common to see dark areas in people’s mouths when they laugh or smile.
Things have changed. Today, modern composites and porcelains are the filling materials of choice. These materials match the tooth's color and become invisible when applied.
The bonding process used to attach these materials adds strength to a tooth which has been weakened by disease. In addition it provides an excellent seal against recurrence of decay.
Smaller cavities are treated by bonding composite directly into the tooth. Larger areas, which require greater strength, are often treated with computer-generated fillings called onlays. These are then bonded into the tooth.
New fillings are always made with these contemporary materials at Centercare. Because of the inherent strength and beauty of these materials, our patients often choose to convert their old, dark fillings to modern ones. Call today.
