How can orthodontics be done in 6 months?
Adult treatment frequently does not attempt to realign the posterior biting teeth, which are large and slow to move. At Centercare, adult treatment is usually limited to moving visible teeth, the ones we show when we smile and which are easier to move.
Does shorter treatment time mean high forces which could damage teeth?
No. All good orthodontic treatment uses low, constant forces which are actually more effective as well as safer.
Is it painful for adults?
No. All orthodontics requires pressure on teeth which is noticeable but not painful. Whether the treatment uses aligners or wires, they are changed periodically. Each time the sense of pressure is greater for about 24 hours.
If I choose braces, are they placed on all my teeth?
Yes. There are mechanical reasons for needing multiple anchor points for any system of orthodontics. Six month Smiles uses clear brackets and wires which are more discreet than stainless steel.
Are teeth ever extracted with modern orthodontics?
Occasionally crowding may be so severe that an extraction is advisable. It is not common and we avoid it whenever possible.
How often do I have to come in?
With braces, arch wires are typically changed once a month. Aligners are dispensed in groups of 2 or 3, every 2 months. The appointments are short, from 15 to 30 minutes. Treatment is usually completed in fewer than 10 appointments.
Do I have to wear a retainer?
Yes. All teeth have “memories” and all orthodontic treatment can relapse if the final tooth position is not held with retainers at night. Lower teeth can be bonded together if you prefer, rather than use a lower retainer.
Is orthodontics covered by my insurance?
Yes, if your policy has an orthodontic benefit.
Do you have payment plans?
Yes. We have payment plans for all dental treatment at Centercare. You will find that treatment is very affordable for orthodontics in Phoenix AZ.
