Teeth Cleaning

We all know that good oral hygiene keeps teeth looking clean and shiny, but did you know that it's also essential to your overall health?  We know that poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental problems such as gum disease and oral infection.  But recently poor oral hygiene has been associated with systemic inflammatory conditions such as cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes as well.

Healthy teeth should be cleaned and examined professionally twice a year.  In the presence of certain dental conditions, 4 and even 3 times a year can be appropriate.  Dental plaque and tartar is loaded with bacteria and is most often the starting point for oral disease.  Regular removal of this material, along with its bacterial load, is essential for good health.

Periodontal disease is a condition that affects the supporting structures of teeth.  If it’s limited to the gums it is known as gingivitis.  If the condition extends to the bony support of teeth, we know it as periodontitis.  It is often a silent disease with few symptoms.  At Centercare, our focus, when we clean your teeth, is monitoring for the presence of these conditions.  They are treatable, but as always in medicine, the best treatment is prevention.

If it’s been awhile, give us a call.  We can quickly determine if there are problems and we can schedule regular maintenance.
